HAY ON WI 5th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Hay on WI celebrates in style.

While the WI has been going for over 100 years and Powys Brecknock will be celebrating 90 years next year, we find that there is significance in the Number 5.

Five is the number of balance and symbolizes health and love. Five is the number of the human being symbolizing the four limbs and the head that controls the limbs. (We will be looking at Health and Relaxation in our meeting in January.) There are five senses: sight – hearing – taste – smell – touch (and we will be using all of these this evening).

Jupiter is the fifth planet of the solar system and Earth is the fifth largest planet in the solar system (we are getting ready for the Space theme for next year’s PBFWI show –come along on Jan 6th if you want to help)

In the Tarot, five is the card for the Hierophant which symbolizes peace and harmony and we all wish for that in the coming year.

In numerology there are five core numbers and 5 is a symbol of dynamic motion which is true for all our Hay on WI members.

“High Five” is a social gesture of celebrating and our 5 years have had many high points.

There are five vowels in the English alphabet. 5 Words that contain all 5 vowels include EDUCATION, DIALOGUE, COMMUNICATE, MOUTHWATERINGLY and MIRACULOUSNESS which sums up our activities.  Those last 2 words are pentasyllabic . Pentasyllabic is a word that has five syllables (and it has 5 syllables itself).

There are five arms on a regular starfish and 5 points on the Christmas Stars we made in Craft Club.

An earthworm has five hearts and we will be finding out more about worms in February with Wiggly Wigglers.

The Five Olympic Rings symbolize the five continents and you will know that there are five gold rings in the Twelve Days of Christmas (or in our version it’s Five Good Years).

Number five was the lucky number of Coco Chanel. The famous and highly successful perfume, Chanel No 5, was launched May 5, 1922.

“I always launch my collection on the 5th day of the 5th month, so the number 5 seems to bring me luck – therefore, I will name it No 5” – Coco Chanel

A wood anniversary celebrates five years in the western culture. We have a special wooden Christmas tree with our 5 decorations made by craft club members

When Hay on WI started there were 5 local WIs in the Wye Group – now we are one of four.

There are 5 categories in the PBFWI Literary Competition and the fifth one is a limerick, which of course  is a five-line poem.  So here’s one I prepared earlier.
