Meeting 8 February 2017 The story of Wiggly Wigglers

The Wiggly Wigglers founder told of how she started off working in her dad's drainage firm ("How do you get through this, Dad?" she asked, knee-deep in mud down a ditch. "Every few yards, keep telling yourself you've just earned another 50p.") She had to find another way. The growing pile of sheep manure by the back door gave her the idea of setting up a composting business. Her account of setting up this and further businesses was varied, eventful and definitely humorous, ranging from what it's like to keep going despite being advised to give up (and then go on to win awards), to how to cope when worms escape in the House of Commons, to what it's like having royalty round for tea. You could tell she was proud of what she'd built, and that she was entitled to be.

She awarded a bouquet from her flower business to the WI member who'd asked the most interesting question. As it turned out, that person had until then had a disappointing day, so this was perfect - smiles all round.
